2007 Design Excellence Award Project
These first photographs show our design for a unique and challenging multifunction
room. The design is centered on a large fireplace with dual openings facing
dining and living areas. Don't miss the dramatic results by scrolling further
down this page.
Also, for additional perspective, here is a link to a web photo
album showing selected "before and after" photographs of the project:
Warm, Historic Living and Dining
Previous owners of the 1904 bungalow had removed the original mantles and
only raw brick remained. Now, antique, dust-pressed-tiles and limestone
are framed by faux finished columns . The new mantle design included
the flanking chest, which encloses the TV. The chest serves as a pedestal
for the sculpture (Tranquility by Tange). The
sculpture slowly rotates between the living and dining rooms.

Bedroom, Nature Theme
A sense of nesting in a forest was created with the mossy green walls. Elements
in the fabrics and the vivid art counterpoint the background like berries on
a holly tree. Rich textural contrasts delight the eye.

Bathroom, Historic Preservation and Renovation
Suffering from a cheap update by previous owners, this bathroom in a 1904
Craftsman home was transformed with tile, glass and paint. The black
border tiles create a subtle rhythm. The renovated space is
open and functional yet sympathetic to the home’s character.

Bedroom, Soothing the Senses
Iridescent sunlight washes this space like the wings of a dove. Minimal
contrast soothes the senses.
