Community Service
Deborah served on the board of Habitat for Humanity in Dekalb County from
2000 through 2007 and participated in numerous building projects. In 2004, she participated
in a Global Village Build in Honduras.
Deborah has received the Northlake Rotary Club's Rotarian of the Year Award (renamed the Bill Mulky "Show Rotary Cares" Award in 2006) three times since joining in 1998. She served as President, 2005-2006. During that term the club funded a Habitat home in Honduras. She led a group of Rotarians who helped with the construction of that home in March of 2006. Also during that term the club received a Rotary Foundation matching grant for construction of a water system in a small village in Honduras.
The Northlake Rotary Club has received the District Literacy Award each year she has served as Literacy Chair (2007 to present). The club received a Rotary Foundation matching grant to help fund the Fugees Summer Boot Camp in 2010 (Web site: www.fugeesfamily.org).
Deborah has mentored four Dekalb Public School students from 1992 to 1999, first with Oakhurst Presbyterian Church and then through the Dekalb County Mentoring Project. Currently she is a tutor with the Fugees and an ESOL tutor with Literacy Volunteers of Atlanta (Web site: www.lvama.org). Deborah and her student received Tutor of the Year and Student of the Year in 2009.
